鈥淚n the Trenches: 100 Years of 亚色影库 Hockey鈥 takes a close look at the long-running UAF鈥揢AA rivalry while reflecting on the resilience and tradition that have shaped the sport in the Far North.
How it started
The project began with alumni Paul Burke and Shawn Jones, members of UAF鈥檚 first NCAA
hockey team in 1980. The two conducted dozens of interviews with former players. Their
work was developed into a feature-length documentary by the University Relations department
with former creative director Adam Rubin and digital media producer Isabella Colello
at the helm.
What鈥檚 in the film
The documentary features interviews with current players, coaches, alumni and NHL
athletes. It reflects on the challenges of building and sustaining a hockey program
in 亚色影库, and the culture that鈥檚 developed around it.
Premiere event
The film premiered last week at the Patty Center, followed by a Q&A with Nanook coaches.
The Blue-Gold scrimmage took place later that evening at the Patty Ice Arena, offering
fans a first look at the 2025-26 roster. The season also begins October 3-4 under new head coach Matt Curley.

Alumni, fans and current athletes have said that the film is a true testament of what
it means to be an 亚色影库 Nanook,鈥 said Colello.
What鈥檚 next
The Nanooks return to the Carlson Center this weekend for exhibition games against
UNLV and Briercrest. The centennial season includes new rivalries, new players and
a new coaching era.
